Be Ready for Christ’s Return

Living with Expectation, Not Fear

Throughout Scripture, believers are reminded that Jesus Christ will return. The promise of His coming is not meant to produce anxiety, but hope, holiness, and readiness.

Jesus Himself said in Matthew 24:44, “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” The return of Christ is certain — the timing is not. Our calling is simple: be ready.

  1. Be Ready Spiritually

Readiness begins with salvation. Scripture teaches that we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9). To be ready for Christ’s return means:

  • Repenting of sin
  • Trusting fully in Jesus Christ
  • Living in daily dependence on Him

Salvation is not about perfection; it’s about a surrendered heart. If Christ returned today, would you be found trusting Him?

  1. Be Ready by Living Holy Lives

In 1 Peter 1:15–16, we are told to be holy in all we do. Readiness shows in how we live:

  • Choosing obedience over compromise
  • Loving others sincerely
  • Forgiving quickly
  • Guarding our hearts and minds

Holiness is not legalism — it is love expressed through obedience.

  1. Be Ready Through Watchfulness

Jesus often spoke of watchfulness. In the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1–13), those who were prepared entered the wedding feast. The lesson is clear:

  • Stay spiritually alert
  • Keep your faith active
  • Do not drift into complacency

Spiritual laziness dulls expectation. Prayer, worship, and studying Scripture keep our lamps burning.

  1. Be Ready by Serving Faithfully

Christ’s return should motivate faithful service. In Matthew 25:21, the master says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Ask yourself:

  • Am I using my gifts for God’s glory?
  • Am I sharing the gospel?
  • Am I investing in eternal things?

We do not wait passively. We wait actively.

  1. Be Ready with Hope

The return of Christ is called the “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13). For believers, it means:

  • The end of suffering
  • The defeat of sin
  • The fulfillment of God’s promises
  • Eternal life in His presence

The world may grow darker, but our hope grows brighter.

A Personal Reflection

If Christ returned tonight:

  • Would you have peace?
  • Is there unconfessed sin to surrender?
  • Is there someone you need to forgive?
  • Is there someone who needs to hear about Jesus?

Readiness is not about predicting dates. It is about walking faithfully today.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, help us live in constant readiness for Your return. Keep our hearts pure, our faith strong, and our hands busy serving You. May we be found faithful when You come. Amen.
